just saw a clip where f1nn5ter was saying how at this point, he can’t be cis, but at the same time, he doesn’t feel like he’s trans—he’s just neither. and someone in chat was like “you can’t be neither cis nor trans that’s not how it works” i love finn but why is his chat so fucking bad 😭 stop recreating binaries for the love of god, identity does not have to fall into these neat little boxes for you to police

#this is the exact reason we didn't have a hard distinction between crossdressers and trans until recently#we have so many overlapping experiences and benefit so much from each other's support!#there's graphics from 2010 that are still putting crossdressing under the trans* umbrella!!#but somewhere along the way it stopped being about community and started being about individual identity#what was about giving people freedom to have their own ambiguity and expression got hard lines drawn around it#its very strange to think that in 2010 he would have been understood to have belonged to the queer community for his gender expression alone#but in 2023 he identifies as the wrong thing so he's left in the lurch like so many of us#who can't fit the popular and very narrow current definitions that so so very recent#i understand the point about binaries#but trans* was supposed to be about infinities#defying definition and refusing the boxes other people tried to put us in#f1nn5ter isn't hard to accept when you accept that trans* includes non-normative gender expression as well as non-normative gender identity#when that expression is baked into the identity of the individual expressing it#when we narrowed the definition of transgender to simplify it for a wide cis audience we lost a lot of our siblings in the process#he doesn't have to identify by it#but we don't have to keep using a definition that excludes him (via @yoshiyakiryu)
